We have been speaking to people who have experienced Oxevision. This is Katie’s* story.
![Katie* has in the past been sectioned under 136 of the Mental Health Act and taken to a Health Based Place of Safety or '136 suite'. She found out the 136 suite used Oxevision after seeing our campaign online.
I've been in this [136] suite multiple times and was never informed about them recording me. I'm horrified.
I remember seeing [the Oxevision device]. This would explain why I don't remember them doing checks on me like when I was on the ward, if they had that thing monitoring me there's no need to actually look themselves.
It says they are supposed to tell you before you even enter the room...they definitely didn't do that, or after, or when I was transferred to a ward. At no time has anyone ever told me.

![ABOUT OXEVISION
Oxevision is a camera-based device installed in the bedrooms of patients in psychiatric wards in over 24 NHS Trusts [11. It allows staff to access video footage of patients in their bedrooms 12].
Stop Oxevision has identified several issues with the technology.
This includes some consent forms not disclosing the presence of a camera in the device [3]; the extent of data sharing with Oxehealth, with employees able to access images of patients in their bedrooms [4); and distress to patients, especially those with previous trauma, or those from religious or ethnic groups who would be particularly uncomfortable being observed by male members of staff [5].
As video footage can also be clipped and saved, we are also concerned it could be used to enable the increasing practice of criminalising patients with mental illness in the NHS [6].
We are calling on NHS England to halt the rollout of the technology while an independent review into the risks and legality of the technology takes place [7).

I am presently writing a complaint about the Whiteleaf Centre. I was held there in October 2024. I had a private conversation in my room on the phone with my son. This conversation was recorded and has been used against me by social services in which have accused me of demanding thousands of pounds from my son (completely false and money i transferred to him), and told the police are aware. I was wrongly accused of financially abusing my son, but had been told i was financially safeguarded – until i complained – now they have withdrawn that i was ever safeguarding. I was put on a section 3 ‘in order to sort my finances out’ pressured to sign a general power of attorney when i did not have the capacity. I became ill due to experiencing a nervous breakdown, being at risk of eviction and fraud on my bank account where as i lost the majority of my inheritance i had just received. Oxevision was in my room and there also appeared to be a camera over the toilet and sink. We were all refused a paper curtain across the shower and i was repeatedly warned the police monitor everything said in the hospital by other patients. I am completely unable to access any support for my complaint and each time i have complained they add even more false and derogatory information to my medical records. I used to sleep on the floor as soon as i saw oxivision and refused to shower in my room. I am no longer in hospital but the severe damage that has been done to me. I am also having problems with the financial company social services made me sign up to in hospital. They need to stop Oxevision and I will also state that my medical records are not secure. It needs to be investigated by ICO. I also have false reports and horrific, damaging records which have severely psychiatrically harmed me and appear to have been accessed by everyone and anyone. I was only put on vitamins in hospital (no medication) and had completely normal behaviour. I am so glad someone is addressing oxevision i just hope they also investigate misuse of medical data aswell.
